Description

Hindringham Church - A Church Near You

Welcome to St Martin's, Hindringham, five miles from the north Norfolk coast. The church is open daily to visitors. You are welcome to any of our services and events. Medieval church with striking Victorian east window, and a crooked or 'weeping' chancel (altar end) set at an angle when viewed from the nave (main body of the church). The latter is traditionally interpreted as representing the tilted head of Christ on the cross, but it is more likely that the original chancel was rebuilt subsequently, when accurate alignment to true east had become more possible. Detailed illustrated document here. The church contains what is thought to be the oldest parish chest in the land, from the 1200s. Other churches in our group or benefice include nearby Thursford, Great and Little Snoring, Kettlestone with Pensthorpe, and Barney. Hindringham at the Norfolk Churches website. ~ "The parish of Hindringham: St Martin is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Norwich’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA.
